The New York Tap Committee have made their annual Flo-Bert Awards, honoring Florence Mills and Bert Williams. Details can be seen here It was good to see Savion Glover's mother honored in her own talented right. Especially pleasing for me, was seeing the wonderful Jean Bach honored for her lifelong devotion to jazz and its practitioners. One of my treasured memories of my last trip to New York was spending time with Jean in her lovely home. Here we are, with the wonderful "Great Day in Harlem" photo as a backdrop:
A sadder note, also related to the Flo-bert awards, was the recent death of former ( 1991 - the inaugural year) honoree Jimmy Slyde

Born in 1927, the year Florence Mills died, he was one of the few surviving links with the great days of tap
